The writing test has only one task specific to nursing.
Using patient notes, you write a formal letter about a medical matter relevant to the reader.
Two OET-trained assessors mark the test. The assessors use six marking criteria.
- Purpose
- Content
- Conciseness and clarity
- Genre and style
- Organisation and layout
- Language.
The test lasts 45 minutes—five for reading and forty for writing.
During reading time, you read patient notes. The task is at the end of the notes.
You can write a draft on the blank page once the writing time begins.
The letter is written formally using complete sentences of 180-200 words.
There is no time for proofreading, so you need to allow time in the forty minutes of writing time.
