A partner is supplied for you to interview. You are provided with a card that has background information about the patient.. The ‘patient’ must say what is on the card. You must respond to your patient. You get three minutes to plan what you will say.
When you ask a question, your patient might answer with some non-technical terms about the body. (You must change these words into the medical word when you write your notes.) So today I’m writing about some common lay terms for the different body parts.
- whites of the eyes: sclera
- abdomen= tummy/belly
- larynx = voice box
- trachea = wind pipe
- axilla = armpit/underarm
- oesophagus = food pipe
- duodenum, jejunum, ileum = small intestine
- colon = large intestine
- scapula = shoulder blade
- sternum = breastbone
- clavicle = collar bone
- spine = backbone
- coccyx = tailbone
- pelvis = hip bone
- femur = thigh bone
